Dear Bellingham Residents,
The winter holidays mark the end of 2009 and a time to reflect on the past year. While difficult financial choices may stand out in those reflections, I am heartened by the many thoughtful, engaged people involved with the City of Bellingham.
Hundreds of people give generously of their time and expertise to participate in and promote our community. Staffing flu vaccine clinics, serving on City boards and commissions, organizing neighborhood activities, pulling weeds alongside trails and much more; now more than ever volunteers are essential to the effective functioning of our community.
During these times when organizations and individuals all are feeling the effects of a difficult economy, we must work together to support the kind of community we value. We've worked hard this year to continue building partnerships with neighborhoods, local businesses and other organizations and community members, and will continue this important work in 2010.
This holiday season I offer special thanks to the employees of the City of Bellingham. Each and every day, our City staff provide essential programs and services throughout the City and sometimes beyond. As our resources become fewer we are asking more and more of our employees, and they continue to serve with grace and dedication. For that I am especially grateful.
May the winter holidays bring joy and special times to you, your friends and your families.
~ Mayor Dan Pike
